“Because art is, and always has been, about what it does to us. To the one shaping it and the one experiencing it.”
― Brandon Sanderson, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
The inspiration for this sock set does not come from the typical candies and sweets that I usually base my colorways on. Instead, it is based on two characters in a favorite book of mine, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, and the need both have to create works of art, all while floating between the lives of the two characters and up in the trees.
Yumi sock set includes 100 g skein of the main colorway (Floating) and one, 20g mini skein (Creation) in a coordinating color. Available on the following base:
Crystalline Sock, fingering
1, 100 gram
-75% super wash merino wool
-20% nylon
-5% gold stellia
-438 yards
1, 20g mini skein on the same base as above.
What makes this sock yarn? The inclusion of nylon helps to make a more robust yarn to keep hand knit socks from wearing through as easily.
This yarn is hand-dyed and requires a little extra care. It should be hand washed by soaking your item in tepid water with a soap for wool. Gently squeeze the water from your handmade item, never wringing it, and place in a towel and roll up to remove the excess. Lay flat to dry.
Some colors may bleed, depending upon the ph balance of your water. To be cautious, you could add a color catcher sheet to your wash water.
