It’s time to celebrate! Almost one year after closing my shoppe, I have reopened! I just cannot stay away from all of those amazing colors and fibers, it’s just in the blood now and calls to me in my sleep. You can now find my yarns, patterns, and other items in the Candy Shoppe Yarns Etsy store.
2020 is a year that I’m sure we can all agree could use some extra cheer, so join me as I share snippets of my Christmas Celebration with you on my YouTube channel called, My Fairytale Chronicles.

December 8th, 2020:
Gluten and Dairy Free Skillet Cookies (adapted from I Am Baker)
1/2 cup dairy free butter substitute (I used Earth Balance), plus extra for pans
6 TBS brown sugar, packed (dark brown is good here for a more rich flavor)
6 TBS granulated sugar
2 large egg yolks
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 cup + 2TBS all-purpose gluten-free flour blend
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup shredded sweetened coconut
1/4-1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup dairy-free chocolate chips + 1-2 TBS for sprinkling on top.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and both sugars on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes using an electric mixer.
- Beat in egg yolks and vanilla until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add flour mixture to egg mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in nuts, coconut, and 1/2 cup chocolate chips.
- Divide into two portions, shaping into disks the size of your pans. Add additional chocolate chips to the top, pressing in slightly, then add sprinkles and wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Prepare 5-6″ cast-iron skillets by greasing liberally with butter.
- Add chilled cookie dough to pans, removing wax paper, and bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until cookie is set.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce.
Well, friends. The cat is out of the bag. It’s true. Candy Shoppe Yarns dyeing studio is closing its doors on December 30, 2019.
This is a decision that took six months to make. I love what I do here more than anyone will know, but sometimes, there are other things that need to take priority. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I began this yarn dyeing journey a year and a half ago, I had a big dream of what I wanted to create and accomplish. I wanted to create a business that filled people who passed through with the joy and wonder that only comes from the innocence of childhood; to help people forget the worries that accompany adulthood and focus on bright and happy things. Interestingly enough, I found I needed this as much, or more than anyone else. It filled a hole in my life, and helped to heal things that needed healing.
As I look back on what I have accomplished in such a short time since I began, I feel immensely proud. I feel that I have completed all that I set out to do, and more, and it is time to close the doors of my yarn-dyeing shoppe. I am so thankful for each of you who have supported my endeavors in so many ways. I feel honored to have met new friends and hear your stories.
I dreamed it, wished it, and did it. 💖

Dubbed “the Willy Wonka of Yarn” by Manda @littlebittydelights when she said that visiting my booth was the closest she would ever come to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
Once again, I found an amazing opportunity to be a vendor, but this time at a Stitches event! Stitches was just starting a new event for the first time near me in Salt Lake City. I jumped at the chance to participate in this. It was quite the adventure, one I learned so much from. It was a joy to meet many customers in person, and discover new friends.
I have long dreamed of becoming a vendor at fiber festivals so it was a goal of mine to become one at the Great Basin Fiber Arts Fair, a local event in the state of Utah. I didn’t think I was going to pull it all together in time to make it happen within my first year of opening my yarn dyeing business, but with much encouragement from friends, I decided to just go for it, and I am so glad I did!
